The heavyweights of European football boast an impressive record on their own patch in Euro qualification.
John McGinn knows he could be sitting with his Scotland mates on Sunday praying Spain do them a favour by knocking Norway out the Euro qualifying campaign – ensuring a place in Germany for Steve Clarke ’s squad.
“We know it’s not going to be easy. They’ll be hurting after the last game, 100 percent. We know we need a big, big performance, the same way it was at Hampden to get anything out of the game. The Villa star turns 29 next week but although he jokes time is running out for him, he’s in the form of his life with the biggest adventures, hopefully, still in front of him. McGinn puts his form down to, ironically, his Spanish club coach Unai Emery, who has transformed his club’s fortunes and his own.
“I can’t thank the manager enough for the help he’s given me on a daily basis. It’s a lot of hard work, it’s intense but I’m so fortunate to have come into his path. He’s teaching me things I didn’t think I was capable of. “I feel as if I have 10 more years in me. My aim is to be playing in my old age, the same as big Christian Dailly was!
Confidence is the key to coming to a place like Seville and believing a win is on the cards. McGinn believes beating Spain at Hampden was the catalyst for a special campaign that can be brought to a glorious conclusion tonight.
