House Speaker Mike Johnson called for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign and announced plans for a bipartisan task force to probe the shooting of former President Donald Trump.: House and Senate lawmakers are both set for briefings Wednesday from federal officials amid questions about security lapses at Saturday's Pennsylvania rally.
"The reason we're going to do it that way is because that is a more precision strike," he told Fox. "It goes quicker, there's not a lot of the procedural hurdles and we'll have subpoena authority."Johnson said he was initially in contact with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandros Mayorkas "within hours" of the shooting, and he "did not have satisfactory answers at that time.
The speaker said he's since also spoken with FBI leaders and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines "There's real questions. Let's just put it that way," he said, adding, "The answers have not been forthcoming."Johnson said that the task force will launch Monday, but it's unclear what the leadership or makeup will be.Share on twitter
