Jonathan Kuminga 2nd Apron Implications Were Sticking Points On Warriors Clippers Talks For Paul George - RealGM Wiretap
When the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers negotiated a trade package for Paul George in his opt-in-and-trade scenario, Jonathan Kuminga became a sticking point, sources tell ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
The Warriors offered the Clippers multiple combinations of expiring contracts, young players and an unprotected 2027 first round picks. The Clippers countered by seeking Kuminga. But the Warriors resisted the idea due to Kuminga's importance to their future and also believing George wouldn't be as interested in joining their team if they had to give up too much in acquiring him.
At various points, it seemed like a deal might reach the ownership and executive levels, but they never found common ground due to the financial implications for the Clippers. The Clippers were unwilling to take back contracts that would send them over the second apron unless there were compelling reasons to do so.
The Clippers ultimately decided to let George leave for the Philadelphia 76ers for no direct return, but they will save substantial money and additional roster building mechanisms become available.
