The news that Washington football fans have craved for so long, while also wondering if they’d live long enough to hear, finally came Thursday afternoon.
Very few Washington fans know much about Harris. They haven’t even heard the vision he and his partners, including Johnson, have for the franchise. But the Burgundy-and-Gold faithful don’t even care. The news of Snyder’s impending exit brings the organization the most authentic version of hope this fan base has experienced in a very long time.Washington fans know all about hope. Snyder sold plenty of that in the last 24 seasons.
Hope then came in the form of a hot-shot college coach, Steve Spurrier, who in the NFL couldn’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag.More hope arose after the arrival of another future Hall of Famer in Mike Shanahan — another coach Snyder sabotaged and ran out of town after poisoning the relationship between Shanahan and prized rookie Robert Griffin III. The futile tenure of Jay Gruden also was a flop.
