This is a review of Jones Road's new gel liner, highlighting its creamy texture, water and transfer-resistant formula, and long-lasting quality. The author tested all four shades and shares their experience, noting both the positives and negatives, such as the smudging issue after a few hours.
Jones Road 's gel liner is back and it's here to stay. The brand, led by Bobbi Brown, has gained a loyal following who appreciate the ever-popular 'clean makeup' aesthetic. This gel eyeliner isn't entirely new; it was previously introduced as part of a makeup kit but only in a brown shade. Now, it's making a comeback with three exciting new colors - black, violet, and navy - and I got to test them all.
Priced at £24 per pot, the gel liner boasts a creamy gel formula that's water and transfer-resistant, perfect for all-day wear. Bobbi Brown herself introduced it on Instagram, stating: 'The definition this Gel Liner provides is perfectly strong and really makes your eyes stand out.' As a long-time beauty enthusiast, I used the Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Liner in the past, but found it to be quite drying. With the Jones Road Gel Liner, the formula lives up to its description on the website – it's incredibly creamy and glides effortlessly onto my eyelids with one or two swipes. The violet shade, Bobbi's favorite, has a subtle mocha hue that brightens and draws attention to the eyes. Using my own precision eyeliner brush, I took a small amount of product from the glass pot and lined it along my lashes. If you apply too much, be sure to wipe it off on a tissue or the back of your hand. Starting from the middle, I drew it in a dotted motion before blending it into a smooth line. I extended the liner along my lashes to create a subtle wing. Trust me, this creates the illusion of wider eyes. However, I did encounter an issue a few hours later. Although the Gel Liner is advertised as transfer-resistant for all-day wear, this wasn't my experience. The liner began to smudge slightly when my eyelids became oily, and by the end of the day, the extended 'wing' had disappeared, leaving only the lines along my bottom lashes. To prevent the gel from drying out, I diligently followed the instructions to 'tightly seal the jar after each use.' A Jones Road spokesperson added: 'We don’t recommend adding anything to alter the texture, as it can change the formula’s performance.' Despite this minor setback, I see a lot of potential in this high-pigment eyeliner for future use. Its creamy texture makes it perfect for creating smoky eyes. Jones Road's Gel Liners are available for purchase online, and you can find them here for £24. For those looking for alternatives, Zoeva's Velvet Love Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner offers a velvety finish that can be blended for a smoky look, coming in three colors priced at £17 each. Customers rave about its long-lasting effect, with one user stating it 'didn't smudge' on her oily skin. For a budget-friendly option, E.L.F's Lock On Liner and Brow Cream costs only £5 and can be used to fill in eyebrows
