Masvidal is a savvy businessman and combat sports professional. He knows he cannot simply say “I’m coming back,” issue no callout, or waste his time by mentioning someone unrealistic as his ideal opponent. “It did horrible on pay-per-view, it did TNA numbers,” Combat sports and professional wrestling insider Dave Meltzer said. “I’m not exaggerating. I knew it would not do well, but I was absolutely stunned how poorly it did. Nobody bought the fight. People are sick of seeing MMA fighters boxing.”
There is some hope the fight could happen at UFC 310 or perhaps in the first quarter of 2025, but there is tons of gray area.
