The only thing hotter in Cleveland right now than the bullpen is José Ramírez's bat.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The only thing hotter in Cleveland than the bullpen right now could be José Ramírez’s bat. And it’s a close competition with only three regular season games remaining.Ramírez totaled three extra-base hits, including his 38th home run in the eighth inning, drawing him within two homers of the first 40/40 season in Cleveland history and becoming just the seventh major leaguer ever to accomplish the feat.
Manager Stephen Vogt said afterward that despite Ramírez’s goal of reaching 40/40, he has not changed his approach in a way that would hurt his team. “One of my favorite parts of having this job is getting to watch that every single night, we’re spoiled,” Vogt said. “He’s one of the top players in the league that plays the game the right way and just does amazing things every night.”
“They’ve just been throwing the ball great and they went out and did it again,” Vogt said. “You can’t ask for anything more than what this bullpen has done for us this year. We saw it on display tonight, how great they were.” Vogt said it was important after clinching a first-round bye on Tuesday for the Guardians to get their pitching in order by going to a bullpen game in the series finale. The result, he said, was unsurprising.
