Actor Josh Brolin has revealed that he nearly came to blows with Denzel Washington on the set of their 2007 film American Gangster . Brolin, who played a corrupt detective in the movie, explained that a disagreement over lines nearly escalated into a physical altercation. He recounted that Washington, who played the lead role of Frank Lucas, made changes to the script structure without directly engaging with Brolin.
During rehearsals, Brolin, feeling the pressure of acting alongside a legendary actor, forgot a line and instinctively asked Washington for help. This prompted Washington to angrily tell him never to touch him again. Brolin admitted that the incident left him shaken, thinking he was about to fight Denzel Washington.
