Northern Ireland's Josh Rock, a rising star in professional darts, believes he can dethrone the reigning World Champion, Luke Littler, in the coming years.
Northern Ireland's Josh Rock is confident he can challenge Luke Littler 's rise to the top of professional darts in the coming years. Littler, at just 17 years old, captured his first world title at Alexandra Palace earlier this month, setting the stage for a potential reign similar to that of the legendary 16-time world champion Phil Taylor. Littler's breakthrough follows his impressive run to the final of the World Championship last year.
Rock, 23, was already considered a rising star after winning the 2022 World Youth Darts Championship, setting a record with an average of 104.13 in the final. He has also claimed several Players Championship titles and the 2024 Dutch Darts Championship. 'I had a solid 2024, but honestly, I think 2025 is going to be my year,' Rock stated ahead of this week's World Masters in Milton Keynes. 'It's fantastic for the sport - Luke winning the Worlds at such a young age shows it is a young man's sport now.' Rock's best performance in a PDC premier event was reaching the quarter-finals of the 2023 Grand Slam of Darts, a year after he became the first player to hit a televised nine-dart finish on debut at the same tournament. 'I 100 percent believe it. There is six years between me and Luke. We can have a very long career, and I believe that me and him will dominate the sport,' Rock added. Rock is set to face a qualifier in the opening round of the restructured World Masters, a tournament Littler is entering for the first time. The 18-year-old, who has yet to win either the Bahrain Masters or the Dutch Darts Masters since his World Championship triumph, also faces a qualifier in the first round.
