A Davidson County judge will not be releasing journals written by The Covenant School shooter anytime soon.

FILE - A roadside memorial is stands near the Covenant School on the one-year anniversary of a mass shooting, March 27, 2024, in Nashville, Tenn. Whether the journals of a Nashville school shooter can be released to the public will go before a Tennessee judge on Tuesday, April 16, after nearly a year of legal wrangling over who gets to participate in the case.

at the private elementary school, lawsuits filed by several groups called for the public release of writings left behind by shooter Audrey Hale. The school, a group of parents from Covenant, and others have argued the writings should not be released to avoid potential copycats and to allow for closure to the parents who lost children.

"Accordingly, this Court finds that the 52 original writings, journals, art, photos and videos created by Hale are subject to an exception to the TPRA created by the federal Copyright Act, 17 United States Code Annotated 102, 103, 106, and 301 et seq. Consequently, the Petitioners are not entitled to those materials," Myles wrote."
