From a jazz and arts festival to city-wide celebrations Juneteenth events across Southern California promise to highlight and uplift Black culture.

For Pastor Rob Shropshire, it is important to stop for Juneteenth and take the day to focus on and celebrate Black freedom and community joy.

Three years after becoming a federal holiday, Juneteenth is honored across the nation and in Southern California with local celebrations, arts and music-filled festivals, lively cook-outs, wellness workshops and more.But despite the holiday’s celebratory nature – and a day off of work in the middle of the week this year – Juneteenth also reminds people of a more serious matter: That freedom is not free, organizers emphasize.
