Jurgen Klopp's comments on a Liverpool replay have raised eyebrows but he is pushing in the right direction, writes Sean Bradbury
Now it turns out the Liverpool manager does. But as usual with football, it is not that simple.
He concluded: “Nobody did it on purpose – whatever I say here it creates headlines but doesn’t help the situation at all. I’m not in that mood.”An incendiary club statement emerged at 8pm that night and turned up the heat on the PGMOL. He spoke with clarity and honesty about the red cards for Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota at the weekend.
He gleefully declared: "Can’t believe how Liverpool have grabbed defeat from victory in their handling of this! They were wronged by a shocking mistake. End of!"Klopp and Liverpool are leading a push for improvements. The jury is still out on whether it will be delivered. “So how could we sort for the future and this situation? That is how I understand it. You try. You have to try. That is why for me a replay would be the right solution. That is fine. Whether that happens or not is not close to my hands. That is my opinion."
Granted, Klopp runs the risk of losing some sympathy by overreaching in his proposed "solution" to the problem. But he was talking about the principle as much as the present case.
