Klopp's iconic celebration has come to endorse significant Liverpool moments - but what purpose does it serve?
It begins with the anticipation of what is coming and that low call of supporters egging on Jurgen Klopp. Sometimes there is a faux reluctance from the manager to engage, on other days a twirl of his right hand increases the volume. Then a skip into a sudden burst with a clenched fist punching through the air three times and the bellowed response each time. Yes. Yes. Yes.
“He’d hold his hands wide and take it all in. Klopp is very much like Shankly — that larger-than-life character. It’s his version of what Shankly would do.” Jurgen Klopp treats the Kop like a modern-day Bill Shankly And it serves a purpose. None of it is by accident. “It’s a more overt way of taking time to engage with fans and show that he understands that the team is about them,” says Dr Tim Rogers, a sports psychiatrist who runs Perform-R.
