A juror who was overheard boasting about a dramatic court case has been given a suspended jail sentence.
But by coincidence, he happened to be in the same restaurant as a crown court official, who reported the matter to the judge overseeing the case.Jury members are always and strictly told not to discuss cases with anyone outside of the court building – and specifically advised it is a criminal offence to do so.
Gary Hales, who investigated the case, said: ‘This should serve as a warning to people who are selected for jury service about the pitfalls of not listening to the judge’s orders and not discussing the case outside of the jury room.
