"The campaign followed the death of Pauline's daughter, Jasmin, in February 2023, who died after taking the prescription drug pregabalin. During the meeting, Pauline raised a range of issues, some of which - including the sentences imposed in individual cases - I have no control or influence over. However, I was so moved, listening to her experience and the points she made, that I agreed to contact you on her behalf so that you might consider a meeting to hear from Pauline directly.
“I share her concerns about the recklessness of drug dealers and the exploitation of their victims. Those with substance misuse issues and addictions are incredibly vulnerable. There is no easy solution, but I have committed to giving consideration to the concerns Pauline raised during the meeting. These issues cut across the whole of the Executive – justice, health, communities – and collectively we need to find a better way forward.
