Justin Baldoni is embroiled in a legal battle with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, demanding the preservation of documents related to a Deadpool & Wolverine character named Nicepool, which he alleges was created to mock him. The dispute stems from ongoing issues during the production of It Ends With Us, where Lively accused Reynolds of sexual harassment.
Justin Baldoni is making a legal push to protect documents related to a Deadpool & Wolverine character named Nicepool , which he claims was created as an inside joke at his expense by Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively . Baldoni, 40, alleges that Reynolds, 48, misused his creative control on the Marvel summer hit to denigrate him amidst ongoing issues with Lively, 37, during the production of It Ends With Us.
This has resulted in multiple lawsuits, including one by Lively who claims Reynolds sexually harassed her during the production of It Ends With Us. Baldoni, who has denied all of Lively's allegations, has also sued The New York Times for $250 million in a defamation claim over a December 21 article titled 'We Can Bury Anyone': Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine.'Baldoni's attorney, Bryan Freedman, sent a January 7 notice to Disney CEO Bob Iger, Marvel President Kevin Feige, and director Tim Miller, who directed the 2016 film Deadpool, Variety reported after reviewing the notice. Freedman urged them to 'preserve all relevant documents and data' about Baldoni, particularly concerning the Nicepool character. He requested information about the development, writing, and filming of storylines and scenes featuring Nicepool, as well as communications related to these processes. The notice also aimed to protect documents reflecting any attempts to mock, harass, ridicule, intimidate, or bully Baldoni through the character of Nicepool.Freedman stated that the letter was sent ahead of 'anticipated claims relating to Reynolds and Lively's tortious interference with contract and civil extortion.' It also requested information about Tim Miller's departure from the franchise and instances in which Reynolds exercised creative control over film projects. Notably, the Nicepool character is credited to Gordon Reynolds, the same name Lively thanked in the end credits of It Ends With Us. Freedman, appearing on The Megyn Kelly Show on January 7, asserted that there's 'no question' that Reynolds intended to humiliate Baldoni with the creation of the Nicepool character. He further argued that Reynolds seemingly used his power and influence to create a Deadpool & Wolverine character parodying Baldoni, a claim that further fuels the ongoing controversy.Reynolds has not publicly commented on the Nicepool character amidst online speculation that it was a spoof of Baldoni.
