Arsenal's hopes of catching Liverpool in the Premier League title race have been dealt a significant blow with the news that Kai Havertz will miss the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury. The German forward, who has been the club's top scorer this season, sustained the injury during training in Dubai.
Arsenal suffered another major blow in their Premier League title pursuit with the confirmation that Kai Havertz will miss the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury. This setback comes after a week of training in Dubai, during which the Gunners aimed to recharge and prepare for the challenging remainder of the campaign.
Havertz, who has been Arsenal's top scorer with 15 goals across all competitions this season, sustained the injury during a set-piece situation while attempting to block a shot. This news adds to Arsenal's growing injury concerns, as Gabriel Jesus is also sidelined indefinitely with a knee issue, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli remain in the treatment room. As a result, Mikel Arteta's attacking options are severely limited to Leandro Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri, and Raheem Sterling. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Arteta attempted to remain optimistic during his pre-match press conference. He highlighted the positive aspects of the Dubai training camp and expressed confidence in the team's resilience. 'We were having a great camp in Dubai, recharging, training, connecting with nature and different environment,' said Arteta. 'Then the injury happened in an unexpected way, it’s a big blow because of the injuries we have. He was going to stop a shot after a set-piece, he stretched his leg and that’s it he felt his hamstring. 'Fortunately we have been through a lot this season, it’s the challenge I have. We love it. Let’s see what the team is made of.'There was a glimmer of hope on the injury front, with updates on Saka and White. Saka, who has been out for nearly two months, is progressing well in his recovery and could potentially return soon. Meanwhile, Ben White is also stepping up his training regimen and is expected to be available for selection against Leicester. 'Bukayo Saka has been progressing well, he is closer to being available,' Arteta confirmed. 'Ben White is in training more regularly now. We have to manage his load, but he is available.' However, Arteta also addressed the broader issue of injuries plaguing many Premier League teams this season. He suggested that the demanding schedule, coupled with reduced training time, puts excessive strain on players' bodies. 'With the loads and minutes, it’s inevitable. It’s an accident waiting to happen. This season it’s the accumulation of that, the stress. Is it luck? Certainly the schedule is demanding, and for explosive players it becomes an issue. We train less than ever. We have less time for training. The problem is that the muscles are then over-trained, so the muscles and tendons are not prepared to absorb the stress and don’t have time to recover either.
