Many younger voters in western WA said Kamala Harris possibly replacing Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee is an option they could wholeheartedly support.
A jolt of energy or a last-ditch scramble ahead of the election is how many younger voters around western Washington feel aboutMany called the change a welcome surprise that gives them an option they could wholeheartedly support.
“I think the age was an issue for a lot of people around my age and I think a lot of people see Kamala as just a younger, more in-touch candidate,” said Rohan Madhogarhia, a younger voter. “The feeling I'm getting is that more people are willing to go out and vote."Others are worried about the sense of disarray this move projects.
“After the past several years I have just stopped holding out hope for any sense of whether this is going to be great or this is going to be bad. I’m going to take it basically in survival mode. I'm going to handle it as it comes,” said Bailey Carroll. “I don't feel particularly energized. I feel a slight bit of hope now that Biden has dropped out, but I'm not confident the way things are going to go.
Young voters said there is a lot of catching up to do this close to election day, but many think Harris stacks up better than her boss to take on former President Donald Trump.“I believe that they may have thought it was an easy win with Biden, but now they actually have a source of competition,” said Jess Cooley, who described herself as a Democrat who will vote for Harris if she gets the Democratic Party’s nomination.
Prior to the announcement this weekend, there was real concern young voters were feeling apathetic and might turn away from the Democratic Party but Harris restores a sense of hope for many.Stay Connected
