People have circulated the bizarre claims within the Trump campaign, including his running mate JD Vance, alleging that Haitian immigrants in Ohio are abducting pets to eat them.
Vice President Kamala Harris landed a blow on Donald Trump as he claimed immigrants are "stealing pets" and eating them.
The evening was the first time either candidate had ever met each other face to face. After a frosty exchange over the economy, the ABC-hosted debate heated up as Harris dragged Trump over the coals for appointing judges to the Supreme Court who overturned five decades of abortion law. She told her fans: "I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them."
Trump once again denied his defeat to Biden four years ago, a denial which led to the infamous January 6 Capitol insurrection. Asserting it's "time to turn the page," Harris made an appeal to Republicans and independents disillusioned by Trump's style and his attempts four years ago to overturn the 2020 presidential election, saying there's a place in her campaign for them "to stand for country, to stand for our democracy, to stand for rule of law and to end the chaos."
The candidates convened in a small, blue-lit amphitheatre transformed into a TV studio, devoid of a live audience, hence there were no raucous applause, cheers or boos. The intimate setting - with the candidates' lecterns placed less than 10 feet apart - belied the heated debate that ensued.
