The restaurant owner says it has 'no intention' of closing
A burger restaurant where staff are purposely rude to customers has issued an update after its Manchester branch was put on the market. The lease for Karen's Diner, which opened in Prestwich in 2022, was listed on Rightmove prompting questions about its future.
But the owner of the restaurant, which is part of a chain that started in Australia, has said that the company has 'no intention' of closing its Bury New Road branch. A spokesperson for Karen's Diner told the Manchester Evening News its lease has been renewed. He said the property was advertised after the original tenancy agreement ended. The listing has now been removed from Rightmove.He said: "We are grateful for the opportunity to state that we have no intention of closing our restaurant in Prestwich Manchester. Our original tenancy agreement terminated at the end of last year and was quickly renewed to ensure continuity.Last year, some of Karen Diner's original restaurants in Australia went into liquidation.
A spokesperson for the brand told the M.E.N. at the time that the UK branches are safe. The statement went on to say that the UK restaurants, including the branch in Prestwich, will continue to operate independently, with plans for new branches in Europe too. According to the company's website, Karen's Diner currently has restaurants in Sheffield, Birmingham and London as well as one in Dublin and another in Jakarta, Indonesia. Last week, police were called to the restaurant in Prestwich to 'monitor' protestors who gathered outside ahead of an appearance by controversial former Apprentice contestant turned far-right commentator Katie Hopkins.
