Writing for the Record, SNP MSP Ivan McKee says the party needs a leadership contest rather than a coronation.
This is a critical time for the SNP , and the wider independence movement. The party’s electoral fortunes are not what they were, nor where they should be. We need to understand that, and act accordingly.
Rushing to endorse a ‘continuity’ candidate at this early stage is eerily reminiscent of what happened in last year’s contest – and we all know now how well that turned out. At a time like this we need to be honest with ourselves. The decision as to who leads our party, and our country, needs to be based on who has the clearest vision and can best reach those persuadable voters.
