GMB star Kate cares for her husband who continues to live with the damage caused to his body after contracting coronavirus
Kate Garraway has told of the 'emergency setbacks' her husband Derek Draper suffers as he continues to live with the damage caused to his body after contracting coronavirus more than three years ago.
While he's made some progress since coming out of his coma, he can still only say the occasional few words and is struggling with renal failure and infected wounds. Another of Derek's struggles comes from his lungs as he can't breathe in oxygen nor breathe out carbon dioxide efficiently, meaning his body is "slightly poisoned all the time".
But Kate has shared how she's 'experimenting' with carving out time to "give myself the gift of doing something that only helps me", while caring for her husband. She said: "I’ve been experimenting with ways to take control of my own happiness. I now deliberately carve out time to give myself the gift of doing something that only helps me.
