Garraway, a seasoned 55-year-old presenter, expresses her excitement about the project, stating, 'In this series, I get to introduce you to people who want to open your eyes and your mind to another Dubai, the one that is unheard of, and explore what this city and its residents are all about.' She further adds, 'It is a place where east meets west, where women can and do lead the way, where science is saving resources and selflessness is saving lives.'Driven by a genuine desire to explore a different facet of Dubai, Garraway delves deeper into her motivation: 'I've been to Dubai a few times, but it was through these conversations in people's homes, restaurants, offices, and places of cultural significance that I've really been able to understand a different side of Dubai.' She continues, 'It's so special to understand more how the people of Dubai - both locally raised and expats – live and work together. 'Dubai is a tapestry of stories woven together. DXB Unheard is our chance to unravel those threads and celebrate the extraordinary lives that intersect, uncovering stories that were previously unknown or unrecognised as part of Dubai's rich narrative.'Each episode of 'DXB Unheard' features a unique guest, showcasing a diverse range of individuals who contribute to Dubai's vibrant tapestry. From Bakhita al-Muhairi, the first Emirati female commercial pilot, to Mathew Tait, a former England Rugby player, the series promises to highlight inspiring tales. The first episode focuses on Isobel Abulhoul OBE, founder of the Emirates Literature Foundation, who relocated to Dubai from Cambridge in the 1960s. Abulhoul shares her motivations for leaving the UK to start a new life with her Emirati husband, her desire to discover untold stories, and her vision for creating spaces that celebrate the joy of literature. She reflects on the dramatic evolution of the UAE's literary scene over the past 50 years, emphasizing Dubai's transformation into a cultural hub for literature.
