It’s hard to argue with Camp Sussex on the discrepancy between the reactions to Kate’s mishap and Meghan’s mis-steps
I’m transfixed by the rumbling royal Kate saga. I know I shouldn’t be and that this is a woman facing some sort of health issue who has voiced her desire to keep her personal medical information private. But add in mystery, obfuscation from the palace,Kate’s admission that those tweaks – which left Princess Charlotte with a chunk of wrist missing – were down to her own explorations with editing has received an array of reactions.
Fair enough. No one wants to see a mountain of criticism heaped upon an ill woman who dared to get a bit too enthusiastic with Photoshop on a family picture. However, I couldn’t help but consider how different the reaction would have been if it had been Meghan who had to cop to altering an image of her brood that was then released to the world’s press agencies.
They are right. We’ve long known the press reaction to both women has been different – while Kate “tenderly cradled her baby bump”, Meghan’s bump touching was “contrived and relentlessly photo-op ready” according to one publication. Kate’s penchant for avocados during pregnancy was adorable, but Meghan’s liking for the food was reported in articles linking avocado production to human rights abuses, drought and deforestation.
