Sharri Markson set the tone of her interview early, asking Katherine Deves 'what on earth' made her think she was the best person to replace the 'highly respected and much loved' Jim Molan.

The controversial former Liberal candidate for Warringah was on the end of a grilling by Sky News Australia’s Sharri Markson, following Ms Deves’s decision to nominate for the position.

"What on earth makes you think you would be the best person to replace the highly respected and much-loved senator Jim Molan?” “With respect to what I think I could bring to the table, well I am a strong conservative woman… I can demonstrate, to the people that I would represent that I would go in there fighting.

Ms Deves also said she was “very grateful to the Jewish community” for inviting her to visit the Sydney Holocaust Museum which she described as “an incredibly moving and memorable experience.” “It’s something Jim Molan would never have had to do. Yes he believed in free speech but he didn’t offend the community so deeply, as you have done,” Markson said.

“I’m not excusing it, but I have learned that it was absolutely the wrong thing to do and I showed contrition and I apologized.”

The Pentagon blacklisted the Chinese company Da Jiang Innovations in October over its links to the Chinese military, however hundreds of their drones are still being used by the ADF, according to The Australian. Ms Markson said Australia’s intelligence agencies are “failing us – pure and simple”. “The US is trying to limit its exposure to Chinese companies in sensitive areas – Australia, it seems, isn't as proactive,” she said.

Lidia Thorpe’s rant her latest incident of ‘appalling behaviour’Lidia Thorpe’s rant her latest incident of ‘appalling behaviour’Sky News host Sharri Markson says Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe’s rant outside a Melbourne strip club on Sunday morning is just her latest indent of “appalling behaviour”. Ms Thorpe clashed with police at the Mardi Gras festival in March, lying down in front of a float and refusing to move. Ms Markson questioned why Greens leader Adam Bandt is not being “held to account” for previously preselecting the Senator. “It's his party that gave this woman a national platform, that gave her a safe, taxpayer-funded salary at a time the rest of the country is struggling,” she said. “Her position, her salary – it is a privilege, and she doesn't realise that, and the Greens should be apologising for this.”
