Johnson’s Kayson Cunningham was named MVP of the U18 USA Baseball team and received the Jackie Robinson Award.

While Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been jetting across the country during election season, Johnson ’s Kayson Cunningham might just be even busier. The 18-year-old was supposed to start his senior year on Aug. 12. Instead, Cunningham played in two high school baseball All-Star games. He returned to America in early August after playing in Panama for the USA Baseball 18U National Team. On Aug.

“There are players that won that award like Bryce Harper, and he's had a Hall of Fame career,” Cunningham said of the Philadelphia Phillies' first baseman and two-time MVP. “Corbin Carroll. Bobby Witt. I mean, those names just alone for me to be put in a category is pretty amazing, and hopefully, I fulfill my legacy of becoming a major league player and an All-Star like those guys.
