Prime Minister considers Mayor Steve Rotheram's tidal barrage as a 'viable' project
New Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has said he will look closely at plans for what he described as a 'viable' multi-billion pound tidal project in the River Mersey . Sir Keir was asked about the Mersey Tidal project - which could form a major new link across the River Mersey between Liverpool and Wirral - during his first session of Prime Minister's Questions today in the House of Commons.
' News that the new Labour administration considers the Mersey Tidal project 'viable' will be warmly welcomed by Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram. The Mayor has made the establishment of the project a key theme of his time in office. In March, the Combined Authority agreed to move forward with the plans - which would represent the largest tidal scheme in the world.
