Keir Starmer will chair an emergency Cobra meeting today after widespread scenes of rioting across the UK
Keir Starmer is set to lead an urgent Cobra meeting on Monday with top police chiefs following the widespread riots that have erupted. This action comes in the wake of the Prime Minister's firm stance that far-right troublemakers will be brought to justice for the chaos that unfolded over the weekend.
The statement from Mr Starmer came shortly after mobs targeted police and vandalised a Holiday Inn Express that was providing accommodation to asylum seekers in Rotherham. The rioters were described by the PM as: "Marauding gangs intent on law-breaking or worse." Mr Starmer is set to preside over a critical Cobra meeting today, engaging with top ministers and police chiefs. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has vociferously condemned the "criminal, violent" onslaught on the hotel as "utterly appalling", reports the Mirror.
