It revolves around two fictional special advisers. There is Grace , thrilled to get a job at No 10 at the start of 2020. A Northerner and an idealist who worked for Vote Leave, she wants to help the country make a success of Brexit. She hero-worships Boris Johnson – here only ever seen from behind or from a distance, and voiced by impressionist Jon Culshaw – but, unlike her privileged colleagues, she doesn’t know anyone in government.
This first shindig is a relatively civilised affair, but the “work events” rapidly become more raucous. A flashback of newly appointed head of ethics Helen MacNamara solemnly saying she is looking forward to supporting the PM in “upholding the highest standards of integrity within government”, smash-cuts to her at “Party No 2”, belting out “The Power of Love” at karaoke.
