With Celtic feeling nauseous and their senses scrambled. But never more so than last night as Lazio clambered on board and snatched a victory from the jaws of what was nearly a defeat in a sickener that just might top the lot. An injury-time winner from sub Pedro left a familiar feeling in the pit of Parkhead’s stomach, meaning Brendan Rodgers and his players are already staring at elimination from Group E just two games in.

But he was also correct about the noise, which was reaching deafening levels in the moments leading up to kick-off. When Lazio got the game started, the Italians did so amid utter pandemonium.
It was the perfect start but one on which Celtic struggled to build any kind of momentum. It might have taken a very different twist had Maeda not slashed a shot wide after taking a clumsy first touch within five minutes. But, more and more, Lazio were taking control of the midfield areas and dampening down the flames. And on the half hour, the Italians helped themselves to a goal that had been coming, albeit with an unconvincing assist from Joe Hart and his defence.
The winger could have shot but attempted to open up an even better angle by chopping inside and turning into traffic. It was a blunder from the Brazilian but a blessing for Celtic.
