Kelvin Kiptum reacts to smashing the record for the London Marathon at 23 years old. ‘Of course I’m so happy for the result, I don’t really know what to say. I’m so grateful.'

Kiptum, who is only 23 years old, suddenly kicked at the mile 20 drinks station, not picking up a bottle himself and bursting clear of the chasing pack.in his sights, it briefly looked as though he might be able to run a sub 2:01 marathon.

Reacting to his astonishing run, Kiptum told the BBC: ‘Of course I’m so happy for the result, I don’t really know what to say. I’m so grateful. Asked if it was a bittersweet feeling, Farah said: ‘For sure. London is where it’s at, I’ve got great support over the years and I wanted to make this my last marathon.

‘Part of me wanted to cry along the course, just the crowd, the people, were amazing. Even though it’s pouring with rain, people coming out from their houses on the street.
