Glasgow's museums are facing disruption this week as staff walk out over proposed job cuts. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has been closed to the public as a result.
Glasgow Life venues will be affected by strike action this week as staff walk out over planned job cuts.
The action comes in response to plans to cut nearly a third of jobs with 37 posts from a total of 128 to be lost in an attempt to save £1.5 million. The jobs include curators, conservators, outreach assistants, digital photographers, and technicians.Read more: Popular Bearsden restaurant forced to close after fire breaks out minutes before opening
The charity has said that £7.1 million worth of savings must be made it its budget this financial year following their annual service fee being cut by Glasgow City Council. They say the cuts will ensure none of their facilities will have to close UNISON members working in the affected areas, said: “The proposals will impoverish the quality of museum experiences for the people of Glasgow. While the doors will be open, the culling of expertise in caring for the collections will put the objects treasured by visitors at risk. Losing those who move objects and design and build the displays and exhibitions which keep local people coming back, will result in dull and stagnant spaces.
