Johnson joined the Blue Jackets during the 2021 season and has netted 22 goals with 37 assists for a total of 59 points. He averages 14:03 of ice time in 130 career games.The former Michigan Wolverine had a strong start during his rookie season in 2022 with 40 points, including three game-winning goals. That's good for third on the all-time rookie list for the franchise.
Kent Johnson is an exciting young player with tremendous upside, and we are happy that he will continue to grow and develop as a Blue Jacket, said Don Waddell, new club President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. During a game with Edmonton in 2023, Johnson scored what is called a "Michigan" where he lifts the puck into the upper corner of the net and dumps it over the goalies shoulder.
Johnson also represented Team Canada in several international tournaments, including the 2022 Olympics, 2022 IIHF World Champions, and the 2022 IIHF World Juniors where he scored the game-winning goal in OT to earn Canada the gold medal.
