At one point, ultra-conservative Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene held up her phone showing a call from ‘DT’, believed to be former President Donald Trump. But the concessions he has granted to hard-right members of his own party mean he will hold considerably less power than his predecessor, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, which will make it hard for him to agree deals with Democrats in a divided Washington.
At one point, Republican Rep. Mike Rogers of Alabama – a supporter of Mr McCarthy – shouted as he jabbed a finger at Mr Gaetz and appeared to be restrained by another Republican, Richard Hudson.“Stay civil!” someone shouted.
