Actor Kevin Whately, known for his role as Inspector Lewis, discovered his lineage traces back to wealthy and influential 'capitalists' during a family history exploration on the BBC show 'Who Do You Think You Are'.
Kevin Whately , a beloved actor on ITV and recent recipient of an OBE in the New Year Honours list, has described himself as a 'leftie'. Kevin, renowned for his role as the forthright Inspector Lewis in the popular series, has also been seen as Neville Hope in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and featured in a guest spot in the show's final series. Tracing his ancestry, Kevin discovered that his great-great-great-grandfather Thomas Whately had apprenticed at the Levant Company, involved in trade across various locations like Turkey, Syria, and Palestine, eventually rising to become a director of the Bank of England in the 18th century. Furthermore, Thomas' wife, Mary Thompson, had family ties to the slave trade. A relative of hers, Robert Thompson, alongside his three brothers, prospered in America, reports the Mirro
