The annual Perseid meteor shower will illuminate the night sky in a stunning display for any stargazers around the country
Stargazers in Northern Ireland can delight as one of the most spectacular celestial displays of the year will light up the night sky tonight with the Perseid meteor shower continuing to shoot across the sky.
What are The Perseids? The Perseid meteor shower has been seen for around 2,000 years. The Perseids are named after the location the meteors appear to stream to Earth from, the constellation of Perseus. What is the best time to see the celestial display? The best time to catch a glimpse of the meteor shower is when the sky is at its darkest, which will be between midnight and 5:30am as the shower peaks.
When you find the perfect spot, give your eyes at least 15 minutes to adjust to the dark so that you can catch more of the fainter meteors.
