Key questions about the powers that the first East Midlands Mayor will be able to use have been answered with just one week to go until the crucial election. Voters across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire will head to polling stations on May 2 to decide who, out of six candidates, should get the crucial job.
The mayor will be heading up a new East Midlands Combined County Authority. Officials from that organisation have now set out answers to key questions such as why we need a new mayor, how much power they will have, how much it is going to cost taxpayers and why this new organisation does not cover the whole of the East Midlands. Below are answers to several of the questions being asked about this important new organisation and mayor.
It's a new body set up by four councils to invest in homes, skills, transport and the environment across the region covered by Derbyshire, Derby, Nottinghamshire and Nottingham. It will be using new powers given to the region by Government so decisions previously taken in Westminster will now be taken in the East Midlands.
