Humphrey House, once home to hundreds fo council and NHS workers will undergo a transformation over the next two years
A huge office block in Bury town centre is to be converted into 73 rental flats. This week, Bury council named build-to-rent developer Placefirst as the preferred partner to convert the 30,000 sq ft office site at Humphrey House. In 2021, the decision was made to transfer around 250 workers from Humphrey House, a 1970s office block fronting Angouleme Way. At that time it housed several council and NHS Trust departments.
The council said the housing scheme forms part of the regeneration of Bury and will support the council’s strategy by increasing the amount of quality rental homes. The authority said that its procurement process sought an established build-to-rent developer with experience in delivering conversion and regeneration schemes.
Phil Jones, development director at Placefirst, said: “Bury Council’s commitment to a people-first approach in its housing strategy aligns with our dedication to ensuring high-quality homes are available to all. Our commitment to delivering energy efficient homes that lower bills for residents will also ensure that this project meaningfully contributes to the positive regeneration of the town centre.
