South Korea takes a significant step towards enhancing its air power by initiating mass production of the advanced KF-21 fighter jet.

To improve its air capabilities and counter North Korea, South Korea has initiated the mass production of its 4.5-generation fighter aircraft, the KF-21.

The Republic of Korea Air Force plans to deploy 40 KF-21s in 2028 and a total of 120 by 2032. In July, South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration announced the start of the KF-21’s initial manufacturing phase, which is manufactured by Korea Aerospace Industries . The mass production phase is scheduled to run through 2032. DAPA has previously said that while KAI will lead the aircraft production, about 700 local companies will support it.The KF-21 is a fighter aircraft developed to retain the operational capabilities of the RoKAF and satisfy the future operational concept of a force battlefield as a multi-role fighter jet.

Korea’s largest KF-21 project is the national research and development project, with a development span of 10 years and six months. It is driven with Indonesia under an international joint project.
