ATFA Brinsley FC's popularity has 'exploded' but there's now a threat to their future

A children's football club in a Nottinghamshire village says it could close after the parish council said it wanted to charge them for the use of toilets on matchdays. ATFA Brinsley FC, which was founded four years ago following the pandemic, is now under threat of closure because Brinsley Parish Council wants to charge the club £12 an hour to use the toilets on Brinsley Recreation Ground on matchdays.

"It was infectious and they created this massive network of coaches and kids. It’s such a great thing. I’m now scared this could all be taken away due to no access to toilets." Mr Walker-Drain, a Level 1 qualified coach, added: "They’re asking a non-profit academy to pay for an attendant at £12 an hour - it would bankrupt us. We’re not animals, we’re fully capable of using some toilets. Everyone’s worried.

"It gave me a goal and a focus and I love it more than anything, I love it. I feel like I found my thing. We haven’t told the kids yet because we’re still hoping something will change but at the moment it just doesn’t seem likely. Paying for toilets would be the end of us."
