Fermanagh man agrees new four-year contract as club makes Premier League return

Kieran McKenna says it is an "honour" to lead Ipswich Town back into the Premier League. The Fermanagh man was the subject of reported interest from Chelsea and Manchester United after leading the Tractor Boys to back-to-back promotions from League One.

Despite the interest from the two English giants McKenna has penned a new four-year deal at Portman Road. Explaining his reasons for staying the 38-year-old said he did not want to miss out on Ipswich's return to the top flight after more than two decades. “It’s the next step on the journey. “In football everyone has to consider themselves and their family and it’s a short career, so all those things have to come into consideration. But for me it the honour of being able to lead the club out in the Premier League for the first time in 22 years was something I didn’t want to miss out on. “That was a big factor, plus the fantastic support from the board, supporters and a wonderful playing group. I’m really happy with the decision.”
