Like a lot of Newcastle’s players, he didn’t hit the heights as often as he did in the 2022/23 season, however, last season he was nowhere near as bad as some of the more hysterical fans claim. He had a poor handful of performances midway through the season or so but otherwise, I thought Kieran Trippier was decent to good, at times very good. I think that like Dan Burn, at times Kieran Trippier played when he really shouldn’t have done, to help Eddie Howe who had so many players missing.
I think with Kieran Trippier it is for sure the case that he is far more valuable to Newcastle United than any monetary/PSR benefit that another club might give. Trippier turns 34 in September and if say somebody was willing to pay £25m-£30m then you might have an argument, however, in reality, it would probably be something like £7m to £8m somebody might give, for a short-term fix at their club, as no resale value.
Shaw had not started a game for England in 13 months and it was five months since he had started one for Man U. A number of times Shaw caught ball watching/out of position, including on the key opening goal when Lamine Yamal got behind Shaw and the ball was played to the Spain player, he had total freedom and time/space to then assist Williams for that first goal. No way would Kieran Trippier have allowed that.
