The 57-year-old man was attacked on Wednesday night at around 8.15pm and was taken to hospital following the incident.

Locality inspector Iain Farmer has said that patrols have been stepped up in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour in the town centre. “Attacks on people who are just doing their job will not be tolerated and our patrols in the area are being increased. “Part of growing up to be an adult is learning about responsible behaviour. In Kilmarnock there are activities for youths, including those provided by Vibrant Communities, and I would urge people to find out more about what is available.
