King Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, were escorted into a hotel after a security concern was raised at a public event in Jersey on the fifth day of their tour
The King and Queen were swiftly escorted from an outdoor expo in Jersey today due to a security concern. Charles and Camilla had their third event of the day at Weighbridge Place interrupted during their Channel island visit and were ushered into the nearby Pomme D'or hotel.
This incident comes as the King has expressed his joy at returning to Jersey, praising the "beautiful and unique" island which he said was held in "high regard and affection" by his late mother. Despite the rain, they received a warm welcome with loud cheers as they stepped out of the state Bentley and quickly took cover under umbrellas. The King and Queen were led into the square by a Royal Mace, a token of appreciation from Charles II dating back to 1663 for the island's loyalty to the Crown.
The Bailiff, who is the president of the States Assembly, welcomed the couple before Charles responded: "Mr Bailiff, I am most grateful to you and to the States for the warm welcome you have extended to both my wife and myself, and for the assurances of devotion, loyalty and allegiance to the Crown you have expressed on behalf of the people of Jersey."
