King Charles approves new bank holiday for Queen's funeral - here are the details
In one of his first acts as monarch, the new King gave his blessing to a day off for most Brits on the day his mother is laid to rest.The date of the funeral is yet to be confirmed but it is thought to be in about 10 days' time.
He has been proclaimed monarch after the council meeting - attended by a variety of Privy Counsellors including Queen consort Camilla, Prince William and former Prime Ministers - at St James's Palace.King Charles III takes oath at Accession Ceremony and says he will follow Queen's 'inspiring example'"I am deeply aware of this great inheritance and of the duties and heavy responsibilities of sovereignty which have now passed to me.
He added: "My lords, ladies and gentlemen, it is my most sorrowful duty to announce to you the death of my beloved mother the Queen.
