King Charles III will deliver his third annual Christmas address to the nation on December 25th, focusing on the resilience of communities in the face of national and personal challenges.

The King is set to address the British public on December 25 this year in his annual Christmas address to the nation. The speech is an integral part of Christmas Day, having taken place since 1932. Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II, delivered the Christmas speech each year since it was first broadcast in 1957. This will be the King's third Christmas day speech.

In 2022 His Majesty paid tribute to his late mother and thanked people for their 'deeply touching letters, cards, and messages' in the wake of her death. He also commended the 'selfless dedication of our Armed Forces and Emergency Services who work tirelessly to keep us all safe, and who performed so magnificently as we mourned the passing of our late Queen.' In 2023 the King praised the 'selfless army' of volunteers serving communities across the country, describing them as the 'essential backbone of our society', in his Christmas broadcast. Charles said the presence of community figures at his coronation emphasised the meaning of the ceremony - 'a call to us all to serve one another' - and he concluded by thanking those who were 'caring for our common home'. This year, 2024, he is expected to focus on the efforts of healthcare workers following a year that saw Charles and the Princess of Wales treated for cancer. He will also use his annual address to the nation to hail communities who came together in solidarity in the aftermath of rioting, following the fatal Southport stabbings of three young girls. In a change to tradition the speech has been recorded at Fitzrovia Chapel, a former sacred space of the demolished Middlesex Hospital where Diana, Princess of Wales opened London’s first dedicated Aids ward. It is understood the speech will reflect on international, national and personal challenges and how they can be overcome by communities supporting one another.
