King Charles III has greeted Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan with a display of grandeur in the first official state visit since His Majesty’s cancer diagnosis in January.
King Charles rolled out the red carpet for Japan's Emperor and Empress as the British monarch joked about the two country's love for tea and discussing the weather.
King Charles III said the UK and Japan had more in common than just drinking tea and talking about the weather. The two couples then travelled in horse-drawn carriages from Whitehall to Buckingham Palace, followed by Prince William and former Japanese foreign minister Hirofumi Nakasone. The emperor and his wife had arrived in London on Sunday but spent their first two days in the UK for a private visit.
