King Charles reportedly plans to skip dining with world leaders at Buckingham Palace on the eve of his coronation and intends to retire early in case “partying” the night before “tires him out”.
A royal insider told the Telegraph that “partying” will be off the table for the 74-year-old the night before he is officially crowned at Westminster Abbey in an event which will broadcast live around the world.
“[The King] doesn't want to do anything in the evening in case it tires him out,” the insider told the British publication.Charles’ reported plans for the eve of his coronation are in stark contrast to his late mother Queen Elizabeth II, who attended a banquet in the Buckingham Palace Ballroom alongside 400 guests the evening before she was crowned in 1953.
The King’s coronation is set to be a “slimmed-down” version compared to his mother’s, skipping ancient tradition, representing multiple faiths, cultures and communities across the United Kingdom, and it will also include a dramatically smaller guest list. Ancient customs like the monarch being presented with several golden objects including spurs, bracelets and a robe will likely be scrapped, and Charles is reportedly aiming to be coronated within an hour - rather than almost three.
