King Charles’s royal cypher has been worn in public for the first time since Queen Elizabeth II’s death. The cypher displaying the initials CR, will slowly start appearing on everyday objects around us.

Older notes and coins are expected to remain as legal tender while the transition takes place, but there will likely be a date set for when this money can no longer be used.

The same will happen to stamps over time, where the Queen’s face will eventually be swapped with a picture of King Charles. Post boxes will not be replaced, but any new post boxes will bear the King’s cypher instead of the Queen’s. The King’s cypher will soon take over the Queen’s in several other places though, including government buildings, uniforms and royal or state documents.Charles said today: ‘My mother’s reign was unequalled in its duration, its dedication and its devotion.‘I am deeply aware of this great inheritance and of the duties and heavy responsibilities of sovereignty which have now passed to me.

‘In taking up these responsibilities, I shall strive to follow the inspiring example I have been set in upholding constitutional government and to seek the peace, harmony and prosperity of the peoples of these islands and of the Commonwealth realms and territories throughout the world.’
