'King Charles starts milestone year with guardian angel at his side', says expert

The year 2023 marks one of the most important of King Charles III’s life. Centring on his coronation on 6 May, it’s a year that will usher in a new era for the monarchy and a time in which the King will pay tribute to his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died last September, and her steadfast, constant and dutiful 70-year reign.

“What we’re all witnessing with the New Year is the end of an era and the true beginning of a new era. The job is now securely Charles’s and he will forge through the year with enormous enthusiasm. The late Queen was undoubtedly in the family’s thoughts and prayers at a church service in Sandringham on Christmas Day, where the King and Queen Consort were joined by family including the Wessexes, Tindalls and Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice and their father Prince Andrew.

And Jennie says the King has been working very hard behind the scenes to make his coronation much more inclusive and less traditional. Meanwhile, royal expert Duncan Larcombe says King Charles has already shown he can make bold decisions. King Charles III’s coronation will take place on Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey. In a statement, Buckingham Palace confirmed, “The ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside the Queen Consort. The coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in long-standing traditions and pageantry.”

“It’ll be a fantastic day. Charles’ mother, in the Christmas message she gave the year she acceded, said she looked forward to her coronation and asked for everyone to pray for her on the coronation day. Charles will be hoping for unity. Unity is pretty important today – we’re so divided, in the country, the world and the royal family. I’m sure Charles will be hoping his coronation will be a rallying call for all to move on from the disunity that has been so prevalent ever since Brexit.
